Angel Gil Lopez

b. 1990, Deming, New Mexico

A native of New Mexico, Angel Gil Lopez is a professional filmmaker, photographer, and graphic designer. Being a sponsored scooter rider and skateboarder in his youth in the resurgent 2000s, he received a camcorder for Christmas and thus his passion for the arts began. In 2008, Angel pursued filmmaking and photography as creative professions. He graduated from the University of New Mexico in 2014 and had a handful of short films screened at student showcases in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico during his tenure. A 2020 series of his photographic works were selected for a group exhibition in 2023 as part of a grant from UETF in Albuquerque. Homies: Series 1 was on display as part of …thrum… at FUSION Gallery from September 8th to October 1, 2023. Angel was awarded another grant in the same year that commissioned a series of 10 final images each from several photographers for the inaugural Gallery One group exhibition at City Hall. A Day in the Life II ran from January 5th to March 7, 2024 and celebrated workers from selected governmental departments and are now installed in the Albuquerque Museum of Art and Photo Archives. Angel is also an educator and has taught after school filmmaking classes in San Anselmo, California and Albuquerque, New Mexico through Americorps, recreation departments, and school funded programming.
